In the region of Navarra, red wine varietals dominate. In addition to Garnacha (Grenache), one finds Tempranillo (planted predominantly in the northern zones), and Cabernet Sauvignon which is usually used as a blending varietal. There are smaller amounts of white varietals planted, including Viura, Malvasia, White Grenache, and Chardonnay. However, it is the Grenache and Trempanillo which really outperform the other varietals here, producing wines with dark fruit and amazing balance with soft tannins, ideal for near-term consumption.
